Thai officials shut down radio station after Thaksin calls in
The military junta and the Public Relations Department on Thursday shut down the Confidante community radio station hours after ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra called to talk to listeners on-air. In the broadcast, Thaksin called for an early election, and said people would not tolerate any delays in the election, points he has made in previous interviews in the foreign press. Bavorn Techa-in, chief of the National Broadcasting Commission, said the station had been set up unlawfully, but denied that there was any order to shut it down. Other media reports quoted the chief of the PRD as saying that he had in fact ordered it closed. The inspectors also seized a tape recording of the 15-minute call and talk by Thaksin. The interview marked the first time Thaksin had spoken to any Thai media since the Sept 19 coup.

Hacker accused of milking AIS and True for millions
Police have accused Taweesap Lalitsasiwimon of hacking into the computer systems of AIS and True Corp., causing more than 100 million baht in damages. Advanced Info Service said last month that it suffered losses of 8 million baht after an unidentified hacker got into its computer system and manipulated airtime allowances given to pre-paid cellphone users. Two years ago, True Corp said two years ago that it lost more than Bt105 million in a similar sting, leading police to believe that the two jobs were performed by the same culprit. Crime Suppression Division deputy commander Colonel Kowit Wongrungroj said Taweesap had dazzling computer skills and managed to hack into AIS's network in less than 10 minutes. "At first, it seemed like he had hacked into the system via Internet cafes because he used various SIM cards and Internet connections by many service providers," Kowit said. "However, we used advanced technology and finally nailed him."

Thailand drops one lawsuit against Google
The Thai government has decided not to press charges against Google Inc after the company reportedly promised to remove all videos from its YouTube.com website that Thailand deemed insulting to the king. Information and Communications Technology Minister Sitthichai Pokaiyaudom said he had received a letter from Kent Walker, a Google vice president, saying that the U.S. company did not want to promote hostile feelings over the video clips. The minister said the letter stated that the company's slogan is, "Don't do evil," and it did not want Google to become a source of hostile feelings due to the king's video clips. Sitthichai said it would be up to the National Police Office to decide whether to drop pending charges of lese majeste against Google.

Last Sunday’s season premiere of “Game of Thrones” was watched by 16.1 million viewers across all platforms, including cable, online streaming and on-demand viewing. This is a 50 percent increase from last year’s Season 6 kickoff episode. The episode was the most-watched premiere ever for both “Game of Thrones” and HBO. The Season 7 premiere was arguably the most hotly anticipated episode in the show’s history, coming after a longer-than-usual hiatus between seasons. In years past, “Game of Thrones” seasons have debuted in April, but this season required a longer production period. The show now has 12 episodes remaining - six more this season, and a final six in Season 8.
