Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere brings record ratings
Last Sunday’s season premiere of “Game of Thrones” was watched by 16.1 million viewers across all platforms, including cable, online streaming and on-demand viewing. This is a 50 percent increase from last year’s Season 6 kickoff episode. The episode was the most-watched premiere ever for both “Game of Thrones” and HBO. The Season 7 premiere was arguably the most hotly anticipated episode in the show’s history, coming after a longer-than-usual hiatus between seasons. In years past, “Game of Thrones” seasons have debuted in April, but this season required a longer production period. The show now has 12 episodes remaining - six more this season, and a final six in Season 8.

Woman’s rant about Thai rice causes uproar in Thailand
A video showing an Asian-American woman’s bizarre way of cooking rice has upset some Thai people. In the 4-minute video, the woman is shown to be frying Thai jasmine rice in a wok on high heat, which scorched the rice. Clearly clueless about how to cook rice properly, the woman suggested that the rice may have been contaminated with plastic. The video went viral in Thailand after it was shared by a popular Facebook page Drama Addict. Throngs of Thai Facebook users posted angry comments on the video, attempting the protect the reputation of the world-famous Thai jasmine rice.

Police arrest man after mistaking glaze from a doughnut for drugs
Police in the state of Florida in the U.S. recently pulled over a man for a speeding violation. During the traffic stop, they noticed what looked like small white rocks on his dashboard. Believing the white substance was crystal meth, the police arrested the man for drug possession. The man tried to explain to the police that the substance was glaze from a Krispie Kreme doughnut, but they did not believe him. He was only released from custody weeks later after crime lab tests showed that it was actually a sugar-based substance. He is now planning to sue the police department.

A pub called the Gin Club in Hove, England, has set up a system that weakens mobile phone reception, meaning customers are unable to use their phones while inside. The owner said he set up the system because he wanted people to enjoy themselves without being interrupted or distracted by their phones. The phone signals are weakened because silver foil and copper mesh have been placed inside the walls of the establishment, thereby making it difficult for phones to have good reception. The pub's owner said that so far, customers say they like the system and it is having its desired effect.
