Thai flag with Thaksin's name sparks uneasiness
A published picture showing a Thai national flag bearing the name "Thaksin" at a Manchester City football match has sparked controversy in Thailand. The Thai government said it was investigating the photo, which was published in Matichon newspaper last week. Thai Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama said it was unlikely that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was involved in the "improper act." He said it could have been done by Manchester City supporters who were unaware of the potentially negative meaning it sent to Thai people.

Thai PM slams fortune teller over downfall prediction
Thailand's combative prime minister has lashed out at a famous fortune teller for predicting his new government's downfall in another military coup, local press reported. The self-proclaimed fortuneteller also predicted that Thailand's new army chief General Anupong Paojinda would be the next prime minister. "This fortune teller has no shame about making a wrong prediction and I wonder what he is doing to the country by invoking my name and that of the army chief to insinuate another coup," Samak said.

Thai Buddhist monks have been warned not to use social networking sites to flirt with girls. Last week, the Prime Minister's Office requested that the Information, Communications and Technology ministry monitor monk's use of the Hi5 social networking site. A Thai minister reportedly asked site operators to monitor the Web site for monks' participation and kick them off the site. He also urged other users not to interact with monks behaving inappropriately on the site. The news of the warning came earlier this week as police in Thailand were investigating a rape claim against a monk. In that case, a monk is accused of using the Internet to lure a teenage girl to his temple and raping her.

Last Sunday’s season premiere of “Game of Thrones” was watched by 16.1 million viewers across all platforms, including cable, online streaming and on-demand viewing. This is a 50 percent increase from last year’s Season 6 kickoff episode. The episode was the most-watched premiere ever for both “Game of Thrones” and HBO.
