Sonthi Boonyaratglin said Meechai Ruchuphan, speaker of the National Legislative Assembly, told him that complications could force the delay of the polls. "I asked Mr. Meechai if it is possible to hold the election this year," Sonthi said. "He told me it is hard to say when looking at the schedule. He is not sure if the elections can take place even in December." Also contributing to a possible delay in holding new polls is the fact that the necessary electoral legislation has yet to be approved by the legislature.
